WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THE WORKSHOPS…

Workforce Orientation Session – provides an overview of workforce services offered through Clackamas Community College and at the One-Stop Resource Center.  Attendance at this workshop is required before Title 1B eligibility.

Find Your Next Jobcovers basics of job search, such as using Employment Dept. resources, keeping a job search log;  the “hidden” job market, developing a network, informational interviews, job shadowing.

Effective Applicationscovers how to successfully fill out job applications so that employers will notice them, including gaps in work history, background issues, and unrelated work history.

Switching Occupations  – covers Career Information System’s Skills Assessment and Keirsey Temperament Sorter/MBTI occupational assessment, beginning to conduct research into a new career field; introduces online resources, including OLMIS and CIS, informational interviews, development of network.  This workshop requires basic computer skills:  use a mouse, follow printed or spoken directions to find things on the internet, scroll up and down a page, print.

Resume 1covers basic elements of targeted combination resume, using resume template; development of personal work history; use of Ben Franklin Balance Sheet to document qualifications for each job; principles of effectively marketing your skills to employers.

Resume 2applies information from Resume 1 to produce targeted combination resume based on actual job ad; hands on; pre-requisite Resume 1. This workshop requires basic computer skills:  use a mouse, follow printed or spoken directions to find things on the internet, scroll up and down a page, print.

Cover Letterincludes basics of cover letter using information developed from Resume1, using Ben Franklin Balance Sheet; pre-requisite Resume 1.

Interviewing  – covers basics of preparing for interview, including research into company, time management, materials to take, how to dress, predictable questions, tough questions, illegal/awkward/off-the-wall questions, references, thank you notes.

Job Search Support Groupsupport group format for job seekers; agenda is partly determined by participants.

Basic Computer Skillsintroduces new computer users to using the mouse, what the desktop is, surfing the net,  Word basics:  edit, insert, scroll, minimize, maximize, restore, delete, cut & paste, copy & paste.  No prior computer experience required.

Intermediate Computer Skills – builds upon skills learned in Basic Computer Skills 1. Must take Basic Computer Skills first or get instructor consent.

Spanish Basic Computer Skills Workshopfor 1st time computer users.  Covers using computer for job search, interviews, tips on Anglo culture, filling out applications, basic English language skills.  Students may attend language skills only, from 9:30-10am.

Russian Basic Computer Skills Workshopfor 1st time computer uses; covers basic information about Word, Excel, internet, email and job search strategies.

Youth Employment Lab –Open entry, no appointment necessary; for youth 14 to 21.  Assistance with job search, job leads, interviewing skills, increasing employability rate.  All youth will be screened for extended C-TEC Youth Services.
