Early Childhood Education
The
Early Childhood Certificate Program
Upon completion of this certificate program, participants will have completed
the education/training required for application to either the CDA (Child
Development Associate) national credential and/or to Oregon's Early Childhood
Care and Education Professional Development Registry (PDR) at Step 8. Program
outcomes include the skills necessary for entry-level work in childhood care and
education, or as paraprofessionals in child and family support systems.
Coursework
This program provides a foundation in early childhood care and education core
knowledge areas. Coursework will be taught following Developmentally Appropriate
Practice (DAP) principles, outlined by the National Associate for the Education
of Young Children (NAEYC). 
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities may include: pre-school teachers, daycare
teachers/workers, and infant toddler teachers.

- Up to 3 - ECE 175 credits may be substituted for HDF(S) 225 – Prenatal, Infant,
Toddler Development (3 credits).
- After completing Year 1 and the Certificate in Early Childhood Education & Family
Studies, students have option to continue on for a second year – to obtain AAS in
Human Services or AAS in Early Childhood and Family Studies
- Upon completion of the second year coursework for the AAS in Early Childhood and Family Studies degree,
students will be prepared to work in a variety of educational & child and family support settings as
in charge teachers or child & family support personnel. These settings include preschools, child care
centers, private kindergartens, etc. Additionally, they will be prepared to work as paraprofessionals in
public school settings (PK-3rd Grade).
