Back on track at CCC

Dusti Wilson was going to Milwaukie High School when both of her parents went to prison and she began using methamphetamine. She was living on the streets, doing drugs. Dusti’s life took a turn for the better when she got pregnant. She realized she had to become responsible because she was going to have a baby. She quit drugs and moved in with her grandmother. One day a community health nurse told her about the Young Parent Opportunity Program (YPOP) at Clackamas. She started at YPOP, but then had to stop attending because she had high blood pressure and was confined to bed for two months. After Dusti delivered a healthy baby boy, Drake, on March 17, 2004, she returned to YPOP and passed all of the GED tests in three weeks. She was motivated to finish her GED because she needed it to get a job. After earning her GED, Dusti went into a Certified Nursing Assistant training sponsored by Youth Services and Clackamas Technical Educational Consortium. Dusti now has a job as a medication aid at Canby Assisted Living Concepts Center.

This project was made possible by a grant from the Clackamas Community College Foundation.
