TEACHING
PHILOSOPHY
I
try to inspire students to take chances—to read things they might
not have attempted on their own, to write in new forms and voices. But
I also work hard to create a safe and supportive environment for them
to do so. My classes are usually designed as explorations, or "inquiries,"
to use the buzzword. I try to ignite students' curiousity and then empower
them to find their own answers. I see my role in a class as being to
facilitate discussion, to provide resources as necessary, and to encourage
and gently push students to do their very best.
