Special Visiting Writer

Poet and Essayist Judith Barrington Will Read from Her Work Thursday October 20, Noon, in the CCC Literary Arts Center, Free

JUDITH BARRINGTON was born in Brighton, England in 1944 and moved to the United States in 1976. Although she has made her home in Portland, Oregon for the past thirty years, she now spends part of each year in England doing readings and workshops. Barrington’s new book, Horses and the Human Soul, is a finalist for the Oregon Book Award. Lifesaving: A Memoir, published in 2000, was the winner of the Lambda Literary Award, finalist for the Oregon Book Award. She has two previous volumes of poetry: Trying to Be an Honest Woman (1985) was recently selected by The Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission for "Literary Oregon - 100 books: 1800 - 2000", a list unveiled in January, 2005 at the Oregon State Library. Her bestselling book for writers and writing teachers, Writing the Memoir: From Truth to Art is used widely in university writing classes, independent workshops, and by individuals.
