Summer accelerated EMT-Basic!
Enrollment for Summer term starts on May 15th. The demand for the Summer accelerated EMT-Basic is strong and the class will fill, so act quickly. Get the EMT-Basic Registration Checklist (download here), and pull your documentation together. Then after 5/15, come on in to get a signature and get registered!

We have CPR!
Check the schedule for CPR classes, either initial training or renewal. These are half-day courses, cost about $45, and requires that you purchase the “AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers” textbook and read it prior to class. Register through CougarTrax. Books are available in the CCC bookstore. We will be adding four (4) more dates during Summer term, so stay tuned.

Also this summer…look for the new and exciting EMT-230 Advanced Skills Integration Course (ASIC).
This is an intensive course for EMT-Basics and Intermediates that focuses on integrating your skills into an advanced life support team. Students in this course will have the opportunity to do field time in emergency care settings (hospital, ambulance, fire) to gain real-world experience while learning about advanced airway management, IV therapy, ECG’s, and all that! For more information contact Darren Olson

Our next Oregon EMT-Intermediate will start Fall term (September 2007). Also, if you are a currently certified EMT-Intermediate, CCC will be offering the “bridge” course that is required for re-certification prior to the June 2008 deadline set by the state.>

What is the difference between the college certification and the state or national certification as an EMT?

The college certification is used only to transfer to an institution that grants the AAS-EMT (Associate of Applied Science - Emergency Medical Technologies) degree.

The state certification is required to work as an EMT in the state of Oregon. The governing body is the Department of Human Services, Oregon Health Division, EMS and Trauma Systems Section (OHD EMS). Please go to their web page at http://www.ohd.hr.state.or.us/ems/welcome.htm

What specific classes do I need just to obtain my EMT Basic certification?

To qualify to sit for the state EMT certification examination you must complete a division approved EMT course at the level for which you want to test. For EMT Basic this is EMT - 101, 101L, 102, 103, 103L. Successful completion of these courses takes two terms (about six months) and qualifies you to take the certification test.

Look for a one-term EMT Basic class in the future!
