John Inskeep
Environmental Learning Center (ELC)

The John Inskeep Environmental Learning Center (ELC), originally created from an abandoned jam cannery, is a 5-acre site located on the Clackamas Community College campus in Oregon City. The ELC offers a shared space for wildlife habitat and environmental education for children, families and adults.

At the ELC, you can:

  • Explore our trails where you'll find more than 250 different species of native and ornamental plants.
  • Discover ducks and turtles in our ponds.
  • Listen to the rhythm of water that forms Newell Creek.
  • View buildings and bridges made out of recycled materials.
  • Observe stars and planets through a 24-inch telescope in the Haggart Observatory. Although the observatory is on the ELC site, organization of its use is handled separately. Click on the word Haggart above for more information.
  • Experience the wonder of watersheds through hands-on interactive school programs for elementary-age school students.
  • Build new environmental education skills through professional development workshops.
