The Program

The program is designed to prepare students for entry level position in the dental care setting. The goal of the Clackamas Community College Dental Assistant Program is to graduate students that have demonstrated competencies in clinical and administrative practices as well as demonstrated work ethics and professional values consistent with that of the American Dental Association.

The program consists of three terms of full time study. Students are involved in an administrative and clinical practicum in the dental care setting in the community. These may include managed care facilities, private dental practices, state and county clinics, dental schools and the insurance industry.

Dental Assistant Career Facts

Typical Salary: Dental assistant wages differ depending upon the kind of tasks you'll be expected to do and the level of education and certification you have received. Median hourly earnings for dental assistants were $15.57 in May 2009. Median annual wages were $32,380.00 (Bureau of Labor and Statistics).

Typical Day: Dental Assistants work daily 8 to 5 jobs with very little, if any weekend hours. Part-time positions are available.

Dental Assistant Jobs: Trained dental assistants can work in a number of different oral-health specialties and environments.

The Future: The projection for dental assistants jobs in the future is expected to rise. The field has even been labeled by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics as the third fastest growing occupation in the U.S.
