Department Mission:
Commitment to delivery of law enforcement, adult & juvenile corrections, and Emergency Management education to a diverse population of students. Curricula is designed to insure Academic Programs student success in upper division Criminal Justice, Corrections and Emergency Management courses while preparing prospective employees for careers in these related fields. Further, the department is dedicated to forming and enhancing partnerships with professionals in those disciplines. This is achieved through a number of pathways: credit for prior experience; professional instruction; creation and delivery of occupation specific courses to meet current employment needs; and pioneering new delivery methods utilizing current technology.
Department Vision:
To enhance academic education through real life scenarios delivered by faculty possessing both first hand knowledge and demonstrated experience. Also, to creating an environment where students are free to question and challenge methods currently employed in the administration of justice.
The Criminal Justice department maintains a friendly, flexible full and part-time staff dedicated to assisting student in achieving their academic and professional goals. The department's cadre of qualified, degreed instructors are actively employed within the criminal justice system and related fields. This insures students have available to them current information and a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Delivery Methods:
The Criminal Justice Department offers a variety of delivery systems including "live" daytime and evening courses taught on site, on-line classes and Advanced Standing credits for completion of local law enforcement academies.
Computer Lab/Resource Room:
A student computer lab is available to students between the hours of 8-3:30 M-F, unless otherwise posted, where they can surf the web, access the college library database, conduct research, complete homework assignments or work on projects. It is located in the Clairmont building, room 150.
