2007 SEASON RECAP

Cougars claim third NWAACC title in four years

2007 NWAACC ChampsThe Clackamas Cougars went undefeated in the South-West league alignment compiling a 17-0-1 record en route to their third region and league titles in four years under the guidance of Tracy Nelson.  In honor of her team's dominating performances, Nelson was again selected NWAACC Coach of the Year.

After two consecutive pre-season road loses, one to California powerhouse Fresno City College, the Cougars breezed through the schedule and were only challenged when Lane was able to hold Clackamas to a 1-1 tie mid-season.

The other tie occurred in a quarter-final playoff with third-ranked Columbia Basin. The Cougars advanced in that contest on a 4-2 penalty kick shootout.

Clackamas then edged Highline 2-1 in the semi-finals and took down top-ranked Walla Walla 2-1 to claim the title at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, WA.

The Cougars were led by a powerful offensive frontline of McKenzie Creamer, Kelly Lewis and Haley Koch as all three finished the season with 20+ goals.  Creamer also broke the school record for assists in a season with 14 and assists in a career with 26.  Midfielder Miriam Coto also finished second all-time for assists with 18.

The Cougar defense was just as formidable as the offense.  Led by Tara McCarthy, Christie Richards, Caitlin Mandeville and goalie Georgie Christensen, the 2007 Cougars were second all-time in fewest goals allowed with 17.  Christensen and the defense recorded 13 shutouts which places 2nd all-time behind the 2004 squad's 17 shutouts.  Christensen's 13 shutouts as a goalie ties her with 2004 keeper Jessica Engeman for most by a goalkeeper.

Cougars Patti Degerness, Rachel Hemphill and Alle Petty also added a great deal of depth on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Clackamas had seven players selected to the South-West Region all-star team. Forwards Creamer, Koch and Lewis; midfielder Coto; defenders McCarthy and Mandeville and goalie Christensen.  Christensen was also selected as the NWAACC Tournament's Most Valuable Player. view 2007 Roster & Player Profiles
