Cougars fair well at Sundodger Invitational
Sep 16, 2006
Seattle, WA. - The Clackamas Cross Country team performed well despite being all freshmen on both sides at the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in West Seattle, WA on September 16th.
"I felt they raced as planned," says Coach McHone, who is in his sixth year as head Cross Country coach for CCC.
Andria Scheese started it off right for the Cougars finishing as the number three woman in the NWAACC. This is Andria's first cross country race since she graduated high school ten years ago. "I am excited to see what she is really capable of racing. I am trying to progress her training slowly, since she is not accustom to this type of stress on her body," states Coach McHone.
Allison Body also raced strong finishing as the number ten woman in the NWAACC. Allison was coming off a minor foot injury from last week and looks to be strong. Savannah Walruff had a good performance with her 6000 meter finish time being the equivalent to her 5000 meter personal record this early in the season. The women's team looks to be coming around well early in the season.
The men raced well as a pack pulling each other along much of the way. Brandon Snook led the Cougars through the 8000 meter race. "The guys raced according to plan, which is excellent being their first 8k together," says Coach McHone.
Chris Baker looks to be much improved from last cross country season with his performance on Saturday. The men finished as the number four NWAACC team but had a faster team average than the number three team by thirteen seconds.
Next meet: will be at Bush Park in Salem, OR on September 30th hosted by Willamette University.

Cross Country Season Outlook
Men
The men look strong with the addition of Brandon Snook who was twelfth at state in Oregon last year, was district cross country champion as a junior and comes in with a 16:02 5k PR. Ricky Shiitake also brings talent for the Cougars. He was also district champion and comes in with PR’s of 16:01 for 5k and 9:02 for 3000 meters.
Daniel Alvarez and Spencer Bonney look to bring strong performances a year after they finished fourth at their respective district championships. Jose Barajas looks strong after a year out of high school where he finished third at state in cross country in Nevada. Nathan Ingram will bring a strong running style that will help keep a tight racing pack. Chris Baker looks much improved from high school where his summer training is paying off.
Women
The women bring in many years of training and racing experience. The top four women have run for a total of about thirty-five years. Lyndsey McKillip, who was eighth place at NWAACC’s last year looks to redeem her end of the season. She beat every woman in the conference during the season, but a car accident three weeks from championships set her out for a week.
Lyndsey is also the reigning NWAACC steeplechase champion from last year. Andria Scheese is a raw talented runner with many years of running experience and looks to gain racing experience this year. Savannah Walruff is a multi-purpose athlete who has a lot of upswing to her long distance running. Allison Body is another multi-purpose athlete who has a positive attitude and dedication to the sport.
