NW POWERHOUSE Under the helm of Coach Rhoden and staff the Cougar Wrestlers have not finished lower than 8th place at the NJCAA National Championships including the 2011 NJCAA National Championship!
Clackamas wrestling is known throughout the Northwest and from coast-to-coast for producing high caliber wrestlers and students.
Under the guidance of 8th-year head coach Josh Rhoden, the program has produced 70 National Qualifiers, 42 All-Americans, 6 National Champions, and 59 Academic All-Americans.
Our graduates have gone on to compete at all levels of wrestling from NCAA Division I to international competition, including the Olympic games! Just this season 7 Clackamas Wrestlers have signed with NCAA Division I or II institutions.
During the 2000 Olympics, former Cougar and five-time national champion Matt "The Law" Lindland captured a silver medal in the Sidney Games. Another alumnus, Glenn Garrison, the 1997 NJCAA National Champion for Clackamas, became the USA Senior Greco-Roman 145lbs Champion in 2007 and is the 2010 US Senior Open Greco Champion.
Cougar wrestlers are bound by a tradition of excellence and hard work. It is this commitment that has allowed us to continue to be a constant threat at the national tournament. We begin team building early through group activities and planned team outings. The commitment built through the team activities transforms the sport of wrestling into a team sport.
Cougar Wrestling is not only about success on the mat, but also in the classroom. Academic performance is high on Coach Rhoden's priorities. Rhoden's squads have earned 59 academic All-Americans in his seven seasons at Clackamas. The 2005-06 Clackamas Wrestling Team was the top academic junior college wrestling squad in country, earning All-Academic Team honors by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
