Keoni McHone :: Head Coach
Coach McHone is entering his ninth season coaching at Clackamas. He has been the Head Cross Country Coach for eight years and this is his third year as Head Track and Field Coach .
Keoni has continued a strong cross country and track and field tradition at CCC. His men’s cross country teams have placed in the top three five of the last eight years under his leadership at the NWAACC Championships, and his women’s teams have won two NWAACC Championships, a second place and a third place finish. Coach McHone’s 2003 teams were the Co-ed Combined Champions showing they were the best overall cross country program for all community colleges in Oregon and Washington.
He has also coached three individual champions in cross country. John Butkey, the 2004 NWAACC Champion, has the fastest time in NWAACC Cross Country Championship history at 24:55 for 8000 meters. Coach McHone has been awarded two NWAACC Coach of the Year awards and six Southern Region Coach of the Year awards.
Coach McHone has also had great success coaching track and field. He began his career at CCC coaching the throws. Since then, he has had many NWAACC Champions and All-Americans. This past season was highlighted by Morgan Cribbs breaking a 19 year old school record in the 200 meters and broke the NWAACC Championship meet record in the process. Coach McHone has also coached 40 of the top ten performances in the throws, distances, sprints and hurdles as well as 6 school records. His throws athletes have gone on to such accomplishments as throwing 195’ in the men’s discus (ranked 12th in the country that year for all levels), two have competed at the NCAA Division I Championships, and Pac-10 runner-up in the men’s hammer.
Former athletes of Coach McHone’s have competed for such schools as University of Oregon, Long Beach State, Western State (Colorado), University of Wyoming and many other universities in Oregon and Washington.
Coach McHone also earned his Masters degree when he was 23 years old where he accomplished his masters thesis study on unilateral versus bilateral squat training and its effects on vertical jumping, squat strength and sprinting.

Gary Reddaway :: Javelin
Gary has been coaching the javelin for Clackamas for a little over 17 years. He coached Cougar women's record holder, Trina Rogers, who threw 169’5” finishing 8th at the 2000 Olympic Trials and was a top eight placer at the NCAA Championships while competing for Boise State. Gary has coached every man on Clackamas' top ten list that starts at 237’7” and ends at 200’6”.
He had a great javelin coaching year last spring where he had two NWAACC Champions. Mike Simmons’ throw of 224’ put him on the USATF national list, and Jeeni Schantin’s 164’10” qualified her for the USATF Outdoor National Championships where she went on to place 17th.
Gary is still extremely competitive at a personal level in the javelin having competed at the World Masters Track and Field Championships finishing as high as 3rd in his age group. He works with many of the top javelin coaches in the United States developing javelin throwers.
Britt Kirkland :: Pole Vault
Coach Kirkland has been coaching the pole vault since 2004 and is a USATF level 1 certified coach. In her five years of coaching at the high school level, she has coached two young ladies to 2nd place finishes at the state level.
One of her vaulters, Catherine Street, was ranked 19th in the nation last year and posted the 2nd best vault in Oregon's history for a high school girl at 12'8".
Coach Kirkland is currently working on her masters degree in mathematics at Portland State University and is teaching math at Wilsonville high school.
Ian Schroeder :: Distance
This is Coach Schroeder’s second year with the Cougars where he is responsible for training the distance runners in the cross country and track and field seasons.
During his first year, Schroeder coached two individual NWAACC Track All-American performances and two top ten NWAACC individual performances in Cross Country. He also coached the women’s Southern Region Cross Country Champion as well as the men’s runner-up. The men’s team was second at the Southern Region Championships in his first year at Clackamas.
This fall Schroeder coached the women’s cross country team to a second place finish at the Southern Region Championships. Their highest placing since 2005.
Schroeder got his start coaching in the fall of 2002 at La Grande High School during his red-shirt season at Eastern Oregon University. He coached the men’s team to a first place finish in the Greater Oregon District and the women’s team to a second place finish qualifying both teams for the 3A Oregon State Cross Country Championship. This was the first time in school history the women’s program made it to the state meet and only the second time for the men. Schroeder has also gained experience coaching at Eastern Oregon University during the fall of 2005 and at Rex Putnam High School during the 2006-07 school year before joining the Clackamas Community College family.
As an athlete Schroeder ran for Rex Putnam High School where he competed at six state meets between Cross Country and Track. He then continued his running career at Eastern Oregon University where the Cross Country team finished in the top ten for the NAIA national championships all four seasons he competed for the Mountaineers. For EOU Schroeder was a 5-time Academic All-American, 2004 NAIA Cross Country All-American, and a 2005 NAIA indoor 1,000 meter All-American. Ian was also a scorer for the Mountaineers outdoor national squad in the 1,500 meters for the 2003 and 2005 season.
Schroeder earned his Master’s in Education from Eastern Oregon University in 2006.
Dan Barley :: Hammer, Discus, Shot put
Coach Barley comes to Clackamas with seven years of collegiate coaching experience. He is a certified USATF Level One and NWAACC coach. He has coached four NWAACC champions and two community college school record holders. He has had different women throw 163’1” in the hammer, 144’9” in the javelin and 140’10” in the discus. Coach Barley’s efforts have resulted in 17 NWAACC All-Americans as well as on two occasions his athletes scored over 50 points at the NWAACC Championships.
On a personal competition level, Coach Barley is the school record holder in the hammer throw at Linn-Benton Community College, was an NAIA All-American in the hammer and weight throw while at Western Oregon University. He also has a personal best of 204’0” in the hammer.
Coach Barley is just about to receive his masters degree in mathematics from Oregon State University. He is currently a math instructor at Chemeketa Community College and has taught classes at Clackamas as well.

Rebekah Noland :: Distances
This is Rebekah’s second year on the coaching staff at Clackamas. She has been a great asset with improving the performances of the distance runners. Rebekah is the school record holder in the 800 meters at Clackamas. She transferred to the University of Oregon where she competed one cross country season for the Ducks.
Jazzmin Reece :: Hurdles & Relays
Coach Reece has a great amount of experience as a heptathlete while here at Clackamas and then at Willamette University. She was successful in her athletic career where she was an NWAACC All-American while on the NWAACC Championship team in 2000 for CCC. She then went on to Willamette where Jazzmin made many of the top ten lists for the Bearcats.
Coach Reece comes to Clackamas after coaching at Southridge High School. She is working with the hurdles and relays here at Clackamas.
Kevin Arizo :: Athletic Trainer
Kevin graduated from Pacific University 2003 with an Exercise Science major with an emphasis in Sports Medicine.
Upon graduation, Kevin took on several trainer roles in the metro area. He was an assistant trainer with the Portland Timbers during the 2003-05 seasons and in 2006 he became the head athletic trainer for the club.
Kevin has also worked for North Lake Physical Therapy clinic in Lake Oswego as an athletic trainer since 2003 and and for Lake Oswego High School as the school's trainer.
