Cougars Top Bellevue 6-0
But squad still not firing on all cylinders
September 12, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The Cougars looked like they were going to run the Bellevue Bulldogs out of town in the opening minutes as the squad reeled off two scores in the opening minutes of the contest. But the Bulldogs kept their composure while Clackamas began to sputter offensively.
McKenzie Creamer tallied the first goal from a Christie Richards' cross in the 2nd minute and Kelly Lewis sent a perfect cross to Rachel Hemphill who added a great touch for the Cougars' second score in the 4th minute. Kelly Lewis added another goal off a corner in the 31st minute to give Clackamas a 3-0 half time advantage.
Creamer and Rachel Hemphill hooked up for a second half score to make it 4-0 in the 59th minute. In the 64th minute, Miriam Coto fired a pass down field that Hemphill ran on to and scored from 20 yards out. Hayley Koch beat a Bulldog defender and goalie inside the box to score the Cougs' final goal in the 82nd minute.
Creamer & Lewis now have five goals apiece on the season and the duo are tied for third in the NWAACC for goals scored [NWAACC Stats].
The win keeps the second-ranked Clackamas squad unbeaten in Southern Region play.
"The result was a good one for our record, but we certainly did not play to our potential", stated Head Coach Tracy Nelson. " we are capable of so much more and will continue to work on improved team play for our next match."

Yakima, Wash. - It didn't take long for McKenzie Creamer to make her mark in Eastern Washington. The midfield -forward scored her first of three goals against the Yakima Valley (0-4) Yaks with an 18 yard flick that sailed over a couple of defenders and above the keeper's reach to put the Cougs up 1-0 in the second minute.

Lewis claims third goal; Christensen gets shutout
September 05, 2007
Coos Bay, Ore. - The Cougars were slow to get a solid passing game going in the first half but managed to get ten shots on goal with several near misses. The defense was strong and kept the Lakers at bay for a 0-0 halftime deadlock.
The Cougs played better team ball in the second and drew first blood when a Miriam Coto long ball connected with Hayley Koch in the 57th minute. Koch then weaved through defenders and chipped the ball over the Laker goalie from eighteen feet out for a 1-0 lead. Kelly Lewis repeated the feat in similar fashion in the 82nd minute, for her team leading third goal of the season, to secure the game with a 2-0 victory.
A strong defensive performance by the Cougs kept goalie Georgie Christensen out of harm's way for much of the contest. Christensen collected her first shut-out of the season.

2007 Season Preview
August 27, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The Clackamas Community College women's soccer team has been hard at work in preparation for the upcoming season. The Cougars finished last season with a 14-5-1 overall record while setting team records for goals scored (90) and assists (60). Although they had great numbers on the year, CCC was ousted from the playoffs by Spokane Community College.
Six players from last year's squad are returning for Head Coach Tracy Nelson. Goalie Georgie Christensen and midfielder McKenzie Creamer were all stars last season and will be co-captains this season. McKenzie was ranked third in the NWAACC in assists last season. Other returners are defender Christie Richards, who started every game for the 2006 team, Alle Petty, who came off the bench and will be making a strong run for a starting position, and Rachel Hemphill, who was the team's third leading scorer last year. Goalie Courtney Greenleaf will red shirt this season.
"We have a very strong freshman class coming in" said Coach Nelson.
Hayley Koch from Aloha is a speedy striker who has a knack for finding the back of the net. Patti Degerness is a transfer from University of Idaho who joined us in the spring and is a crafty midfielder. 2005 all-star Miriam Coto returns to the squad after red shirting last year and brings a spark to the midfield with her quickness and technical abilities on the ball. Defender Tarra McCarthy from Milwaukie HS is a tenacious and aggressive outside back. We also have Kelly Lewis from Estacada HS who has great speed and is a great finisher. We round out our 2007 class with defender Bethanie Adamson from Oregon City HS, midfielder Katherine Gaulke from Sam Barlow HS, defender Caitlin Mandeville from Wilsonville HS, and defender Shannon Mullican from Scappose HS. We also have two transfer players from George Fox University in Katherine Matsen and Liz Petersen who will bring college experience to the team.
When asked how she felt like the team had done in early stages of workouts Coach Nelson responded, "I've been very pleased with the work rate and progress of the team this past week. I'm very excited to see them in action in our first game next weekend in California." The Cougs compete September 1st and 2nd in Oxnard, CA in the Oxnard College Tournament. The first home match for the Cougs is on September 12th against Bellevue CC at noon. [schedule]
