Cougs bow out early at tournament
March 03, 2008
The Lady Cougars, who won their last three games to qualify for the NWAACC Tournament, couldn't sustain the momentum as they dropped two
games in successive days.
On Thursday Morning the Cougars matched up with Centralia College, ranked 7th in the coaches poll, in the first game of the tournament at 8am. The Cougar offense struggled all game as Clackamas could only muster a season low 44 points. Centralia won the contest going away by the final score of 58-44.
Rachel Copeland led the way with 18 points while Monique Tribble added 12. The Loss dropped the Cougars into the Consolation Bracket and another 8 am contest.
Friday Morning Clackamas found themselves facing the fifth-ranked Everett Trojans. Once again the Cougars struggled to get off to a good start as Everett jumped out to an early lead. The Lady Cougars never could gain any ground during the first half as the Trojans pushed the lead to
16 by halftime (44-28).
The second half was a different story as the Cougars battled back from an 18 point deficit. Behind seven second half three point shots, Clackamas finally took their first lead with less than six minutes remaining.
The Trojans answered the Cougar run with seven straight points of their own to regain the lead which they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way in a 77-71 season ending loss for Clackamas.
Rachel Copeland led all scores with 30 points including 8 treys.
Monique Tribble played outstanding with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and a school record 9 blocked shots. Kelsey New added 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Copeland's 25 second half points carry Cougars past Storm 64-60
February 20, 2008
Rachel Copeland struggled to find her touch shooting just 3 of 13 from the floor in the first half against Chemeketa on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cougars, the rest of the team couldn't pick up the slack as they managed a season low 20 first half points and trailed the storm by 14.
The second half saw the teams trade baskets for a while and with just ten minutes remaining the Cougars still trailed by 13. That is when Copeland and freshman post Ashley Cunningham took over the game.
Copeland connected on four straight three point shots while Cunningham was scoring on the inside and getting to the free throw line. Clackamas took its first lead of the game with a little over four minutes remaining and another big three by Copeland and some timely free throw put the game away.
The win improved the Cougars to 9-5 in region play and 19-9 overall. It also locked up 3rd place for Clackamas which will make its 8th straight trip to the Championship Tournament.
Rachel Copeland led all scorers with 30 points, including 5 of 10 from behind the arc. Posts Monique Tribble and Ashley Cunningham combined for 20 points and 13 rebound (Tribble 12 and 9, Cunningham 8 and 4). Kelsey New hit a couple of three's as part of her 9 points, while Jill Niebergall chipped in with 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. [box score]

Clackamas never could maintain any momentum the rest of the half and trailed 21-31 going to the break. 2nd-ranked Umpqua hold half-time lead to defeat Cougars 70-59
January 09, 2007
Winchester, OR - The Lady Cougs (9-6, 0-2) fought the good fight but couldn't overcome an
11-point halftime deficit coming up short in a 70-59 loss to a powerful Umpqua (16-1, 2-0) squad.
The Cougars got off to a good start taking a quick lead, but shot inconsistently and lacked defensive rebounds which allowed the Riverhawks to regain the lead midway thru the first half as they increased the lead to 34-23 by the half.
In the second, Umpqua pounded the offensive glass and pushed their lead to 18 points. A couple of late three point shots closed the gap but it was too little, to late for the Cougar rally.
The Clackamas defense got the job done, holding the Riverhawks to their third lowest point total of the season. The Hawks, averaging 20 point wins, including a earlier 107-74 drubbing of the Cougars, are the highest scoring team in the NWAACC.

12 points going 4 for 8 from behind the arc. Christie Richards chipped in with 8 points in her first start of the year.

Clackamas, led by guard Christie Richards' great ball pressure, held the Red Devils to 25% (16-63) from the floor for the night and also forced 21 turnovers. The offense was equally sharp early in in the game in tallying 40 first half points, but tapered in the later stages of the game.
It was the second match-up of the two squads this season. The Cougars had previouly defeated the Red Devils by a much narrower margin 64-59 in Longview on November 28th.

New a deep threat for Clackamas women
Tom Eggers, teggers@newsreview.info
December 14, 2007
It’s no secret the Clackamas Community College women’s basketball team likes to get Kelsey New the ball beyond the 3-point line — which is 19 feet, 9 inches from the basket at the collegiate level.
“That’s Kelsey,” said Clackamas coach Jim Martineau, a 1989 Sutherlin High graduate. “Sometimes she struggles finishing around the basket. Her game is to get open, come off screens and knock down 3s. (Her shooting form) is textbook ... it’s as good a shot as you’ll see.” >> read more

2007-08 Season Preview
November 14, 2007
Oregon City, Ore - The 2007-08 season gets underway this weekend for the Lady Cougars with a two-game swing to Treasure Valley (Ontario, OR) and Walla Walla on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The Cougs are anxious to get the new
season underway and are very optimistic about their potential.
Leading
the Cougar attack will be a trio of sophomores: guards Rachel Copeland and Kelsey New, and post Monique Tribble. Copeland, 5'10 Wing from Marist HS, was the leading scorer on last season's team averaging
15 points per contest while earning first team all region honors.
Kelsey New, 5'8 Wing from Douglas HS, led the 06-07 squad in 3-point shots attempted and made. Her 79 made three's rank 2nd all-time for a single season. Kelsey was an Honorable Mention All-Region performer scoring 13 points per game.
Monique Tribble, 6'2 Post from Coquille HS, missed most of last season with an injury and was granted a medical redshirt. As a freshman, Monique averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds while
splitting time at the post position. If Monique can stay healthy, the
Cougars expect those numbers to increase to double figures in both areas.
The Lady Cougars will need lots of help from the rest of the team, which includes an additional sophomore and seven freshman, if they are going to meet the expectations of the coaching staff and themselves.
Clackamas, the region runner-up last season with a 11-3 record, can expect lots of tough competition in the Southern Region of the NWAACC Conference.
Lane, the two-time defending NWAACC Champion, will likely be picked to win the region and be a favorite at the championship tournament as well.
Linn-Benton, who return several key members from their 2006 tournament qualifying team, will be very, very good.
Chemeketa, Mt. Hood and Umpqua will also be tough teams to deal with, especially on the road.
The pre-season gets underway on the 16 of November and will run thru the first of the year. League Play gets underway on January 5th, with the Post season tournament slated for February 28- March 2 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA.

Charday Hunt has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Sacramento State University next fall on a full scholarship. Hunt was the Cougars leading scorer (20.1 ppg) early this season until injuries
forced her to miss and redshirt the remainder of the season. Her
freshman season Charday led the Cougars to the Southern Region Championship (13-1) and was named Southern Region MVP. Hunt averaged
19.4 points per game which ranks her fourth in the record book for Single Season. Because of the medical hardship redshirt, Hunt will have 3 years of eligibility left for the Hornets. Charday will receive her AAOT (Transfer Degree) from Clackamas later this Spring.
