The track and field athletes keep getting better each week. CCC competed at the Saints/Cavaliers Invitational and the NWAACC Multi-Event Championships at Mt. Hood Community College. This past week there were 20 season or personal records set by the Cougars as well as two performances that made the all-time list. There were a total of 11 top three finishes in the meets.
Stefani Dittmar was strong for the second week in a row tying her personal record in the 100 meters and running 26.21, which is 0.10 seconds off her PR. She is now tied for the third spot in the 100 meters in the NWAACC. Mat Tweedy joins Dittmar among the many strong performances. He ran a 0.02 lifetime PR in the 400 meters with a 48.45 and now leads the NWAACC.
Rachel Hemphill also took care of business running 58.84 in the 400 meters, which puts her time as the second fastest in the NWAACC this year. Kaitlyn Reid ran a half second PR in the 200 meters, which now puts four CCC women under 26.6 seconds in the that event for the year.
Stan Wester ran a second second season PR in the 400 meter hurdles from last week while winning the meet in that event. Logan Fjelstad finished out the meet with a 0.30 season PR in the 200 meters and 4 x 400 meter relay split.
The distance crew competed well with Andria Scheese leading the way. She ran a four second lifetime PR in the 800 meters running 2:21.02 and missing the CCC top 10 list by only 2 seconds. Luke Correll has a 10 second lifetime PR in the 5000 meters while battling stomach pain during the race.
Kai Ojala represented for the jumpers with his clearance of 6’6” in the high jump. He also had good attempts at 6’8” and barely knocked the bar off on his best attempt.
Joseph Gobel and Alaura Little took off the Saturday meet in preparation for the NWAACC Championship competitions in the decathlon and heptathlon on Monday and Tuesday. Alaura Little had a 600 point PR in the heptathlon while winning the javelin with a heave of 116’. Alaura finished in 12th place, but it was a close race all the way from 12th – 7th place. Joseph Gobel ended up placing second in the two day event by only 24 points in an event that consisted of over 6000 points. It was a great battle between the two competitors. Gobel’s score of 6079 makes him the 10th best decathlete to compete for Clackamas.
The next meet will be Friday, May 2nd at Pacific University. Field events will begin at 2:00pm, and running events will begin at 3:00pm. The hammer, discus and javelin will be competed at Linfield College beginning at 10:00am. Gobel finishes 2nd in NWAACC Decathlon ChampionshipsApril 28, 2008
Gobel and Lane's Bruce Burbank had battled back and fourth for the lead throughout the day. Gobel held an 134 point advantage going into the 1500 meter final event, an event that favored Burbank, since Gobel is a sprints specialist.
Burbank cruised to a solid win in the final event earning 720 points to Gobel's 562 giving Burbank a 24 point edge and the Decathlon title.
Gobel finished second in a field of eleven. He won the 400 meter dash and placed second in the 100 meters, long jump and 100 meter hurdles. He also placed third in the javelin and high jump events. complete results

Cougars shine at the WOU TwilightApril 24, 2008 - By Keoni McHone
The Clackamas Cougars turned on the heat against the competition in a twilight meet that was competed in weather below fifty degrees. There were 15 lifetime or season personal records set by Clackamas athletes which consisted of three performances that made the all-time top ten lists for CCC.
The throwers represented well with Alaura Little throwing a sixteen foot lifetime PR in the javelin, which earned her 6th place on the all-time list. Luke Pike performed well with personal records in the hammer and discus throw. Michael Ferebee is coming along nicely after having a season PR in the javelin. Sierra Hess capped off the night for the throwers with a six foot lifetime PR in the discus throw of 134'0". That throw ties her for 3rd all-time and only five feet short of the school record which was set 18 years ago.
The sprint crew took care of business as well with the women only finishing 0.09 seconds behind the NCAA Division II Western Oregon University squad that is coached by Clackamass school record holder in the 100 meters, Isaac Frederick. The men soon took it to the WOU Wolves beating them by 0.16 seconds. Stefani Dittmar placed second in the 100 meters to a NCAA Division I sprinter from Portland State University and in the process tied her PR of 12.74 seconds while running into a slight head wind. Dittmar also placed second in the 200 meters with a season personal record. Rachel Hemphill placed second in the 400 meters and was the number one collegiate runner in the competition.
The men's 4 x 400 meter relay invigorated the crowd with a showdown with Clark College. The team of Joe Gobel, Stan Wester, Logan Fjelstad, and Mat Tweedy battled the entire race, but Mat Tweedy took control coming off the turn of the home stretch and led the Cougars to a two second victory over the Penguins while running a 47.8 second split. Their time of 3:20.82 currently leads the conference, and they also have the second fastest 4 x 100 meter relay team in the NWAACC.
Kai Ojala won the high jump in a competition with wind, rain and cold. Clackamas now has the number 2 and 3 high jumpers in the NWAACC with Ojala and Gobel, respectively.
The men's team now has 30 marks that are in conference qualifying position, and the women have 27 marks in qualifying position. The teams are looking strong coming into the end of the season.
The next meet will be the Concordia/Mt. Hood Invitational on Saturday, April 26th at Mt. Hood Community College. The meet will start at 10:00 AM and go until 4:30 PM. Cougars heat up the track in the warm weatherApril 16th, 2008 - By Keoni McHone Clackamas took advantage of the warm weather to show what they have not been able to do all season due to the cold weather. The Cougars competed at the Lewis and Clark Invitational at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR on Saturday, April 12th.
There were 16 lifetime or season personal records set on Saturday. The women's team finished second out of thirteen teams, and the men's team was fourth out of fourteen teams.
The meet started off strong with the women's and men's 4 x 100 meter relays finishing in first place for the second week in a row while beating out many four-year colleges. The sprint crew continued their dominance with Stefani Dittmar (sophomore, Canby HS) winning the 100 meters and Morgan Cribbs (freshman, Hillsboro HS) winning the 200 meters. The women sprinters had nine of the top twenty-three places in the 100 meters and seven of the top 28 places in the 200 meters. Mat Tweedy ended the meet with a bang running a 47.9 second split in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
The jumps also went well for the Cougars with Kai Ojala's (freshman, Wilson HS) being a highlight. He cleared 6'5" and barely scraped the bar knocking it off on his best attempt at 6'7". Decathlete Joseph Gobel set a personal record in the long jump by five inches while in the midst of a six event meet in preparation for the NWAACC Decathlon Championships in two weeks.

Cougars do battle in the largest meet this seasonApril 8, 2008 - By Keoni McHone [View results] Clackamas competed against many of the small four-year and community colleges across Oregon and Washington this past weekend at the Willamette Invitational at Willamette University in Salem, OR on April 4th-5th. It was a meet of strong competition with close to 900 athletes.
The distance runners and hammer throwers started off the successful meet in the not-so-conducive conditions on Friday night. The weather and competition made for two opponents for the Cougars to battle against. The athletes stepped it up, however, and took care of business despite the conditions.
The distance runners took care of business with Daniel Alvarez (sophomore, Newberg HS) showing the most improvement. He knocked off 2:34 in his lifetime personal record in the 10,000 meters.
Grant Lewis (freshman, David Douglas) increased his personal record by 22 seconds in the 3,000 meter steeple chase. Luke Correll (freshman, David Douglas) had a three second lifetime personal record in the 5,000 meters.
Stefani Dittmar (sophomore, Canby) and Luke Pike (Silverton) represented well in the throws. Luke threw for a 4 foot lifetime personal record in the hammer throw which keeps him in contention as one of the top hammer throwers in the NWAACC. Stefani earned her way onto the all-time top ten list for the Cougars in the hammer with her 13 foot personal record.
The sprinters took care of business the second day. Morgan Cribbs (freshman, Hillsboro) ran a lifetime personal record in the 100 meters in a time of 12.62, which places her 8th on the all-time performance list for the Cougars. The duo of Cribbs and Dittmar placed 2nd and 4th in an event with 40 competitors. The women's relays also showed their dominance by winning the 4 x 100 meter relay in a time of 48.62. The team of Rachel Hemphill (sophomore, Century), Morgan Cribbs, Kaitlyn Reid (West Linn), and Stefani Dittmar burned up the track on a cold day, and their time puts them only 0.6 seconds away from breaking the school record that was set in 1978. Then the foursome won the 4 x 400 meter relay with a 7 second personal record for the sprint crew. Their time of 4:02.00 now places them 7th on the all-time list for Clackamas.
This weekend, the Cougars will travel to Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR for the Lewis and Clark Invitational. The meet will begin
