Oregon City, Ore. - It wasn't expected to be an easy playoff opener for the Cougars... and the Columbia Basin Hawks showed why they are the third-ranked team in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).
the second seed squad from the perennially powerful East Region, the Hawks (13-2-3, 16-2-4) couldn't match the Cougars' offensive numbers as Clackamas dominated ball control and out shot Columbia Basin 12-6... The Hawks strong defense managed to keep the Cougars in check for 90 minutes plus two 10 minute 'golden shot' overtime periods, however and after 110 minutes, the match remained notched at 0-0.
McKenzie Creamer opened the scoring in the penalty shoot-out with a great shot to the post. CBC's Maria Mayer then buried a perfect post shot that Georgie Christensen never had a chance to stop.
Rachel Hemphill then struck a good shot but the ball rose on her and hit the crossbar to give the Hawks a brief advantage in the PK. The Hawks took their opportunity when Angela Cyr snuck another shot past Christensen to put Columbia Basin up 2-1. Caitlin Mandeville followed with a ball to the back of the net to notch a tie at 2-2. Consecutive Hawk misses coupled with Cougar goals by Patti Degerness and Kelly Lewis allowed Clackamas to advance on a 4-2 shoot-out win.
Next up: The Cougars advance to the semifinals for the third time in four years. Clackamas will take on North Region Champion Shoreline (12-4-2, 13-4-2) in a battle of the league's second and fifth-ranked teams.
October 27, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The second-ranked Cougars (16-0-1, 16-2-1) took care of their Southern Region rivals from Vancouver winning the contest 4-1 despite looking a little flat throughout the contest.
Freshman forward Hayley Koch got the Cougars on the board in the 15th minute when she worked past a couple of defenders and shot the ball pass the keeper.
In the 18th, Koch flicked the ball to McKenzie Creamer in the midfield. Creamer then put a couple of touches on the bell then shot far post for the score to give the Cougs a 2-0 lead.
With two quick goals, Clackamas looked like it was going to steamroll the Penguins, but Clark's Brandie Gaylor manage to get a ball pass Georgie Christensen in the 19th minute to make it a 2-1 contest.
The Cougs got another score just before halftime when Creamer crossed a ball in front of the goal and Kelly Lewis got a head on it for a goal.
Kelly Lewis got an assist in the 75th minute when she penetrated the 18 yard box causing the keeper to track her towards the right side. Lewis then flicked the ball back to Coto, who had just entered the box. Coto then fired a shot that the keeper couldn't get a hand on for the Cougars final goal.

The Cougars with a 15-0-1 record and 46 points have once again secured the region championship, their third in the program's sixth year. The Cougars last held the region title in 2005 when they won their second consecutive NWAACC Championship.
Lane (11-3-1) with 34 points and Clark (10-2-3) with 33 points are battling for second place with two matches remaining. SW Oregon (10-6-0) only three points behind Lane with 30 points still holds an outside shot at second or third place playoff spot.

Cougars 1, Tacoma 0 (Oct 19)
The Cougars and Titans had huge difficulties getting any quality play going during a match played in absolutely awful weather conditions. Battling high winds, rain and water puddles on the field, the Cougars managed to get a score in the 70th minute when McKenzie Creamer scored off a Liz Petersen assist. The Assist was Petersen's first of the season. Georgie Christensen got her NWAACC leading 10th shutout of the season.
Cougars 9, Lower Columbia 0 (Oct 20)
On Saturday the Cougars traveled to Lower Columbia to take on the Red Devils (2-13-0). McKenzie Creamer wasted little time getting the Cougars on the board in the 5th minute from a Rachel hemphill assist.
In the 11th minute, Christie Richards used her corner kick skills on a free kick opportunity. Richards fired in the shot from the right side and Patti Degerness pick it up far post and slid the shot in to put the Cougs up 2-0.
Hayley Koch picked up an assist in the 17th minute when she crossed a ball to far post. Hemphill got her head on the ball inside the six-yard box and flicked the ball back for the score.
Hemphill got her second assist of the contest in the 28th when she sent a ball forward from the left side to Creamer who buried the shot far post to make it 4-0.
Creamer picked up an assist in the 39th when she beat a defender and crossed the ball towards the near post. Katherine Gaulke was there to bang in the ball for her first goal of the season and put the Cougars up 5-0 at the half.
Only a minute into the second half, Creamer collected her second assist when she sent the ball forward and to the right of the goal. Koch ran onto it and nailed a shot over the goalie's outstretched hands.
Creamer got an assist 'hatrick' in the 66th minute when she crossed the ball in the air to just inside the 18 yard box. Degerness picked it up on inside of her foot and volleyed it into the left corner of the goal to boost the Cougar lead to 7-0.
Richards launched a corner kick towards the Devil goal in the 74th minute. After a brief scramble, Hemphill got a foot on it to score her second of the game.
Creamer collected her second goal hatrick in as many weeks and her third of the season in the 87th minute. Gaulke picked up the ball on the right side of the field and played it through to Creamer who beat her defender shot far post for the games final score.
Georgie Christensen and the defense collected another shutout. Christensen now has 11 to lead all goalies.
October 13, 2007
Des Moines, Wash. - The Cougars prevailed 5-3 over the Thunderbirds (8-3-2) in a battle of region leaders Saturday.
Sophomore midfielder McKenzie Creamer got Cougs on scoreboard in the 15th minute when Caitlin Mandeville's throw-in at midfield connected with Creamer who beat a defender and shot far post for a 1-0 lead.
In the 25th, Kelly Lewis beat the Highline sweeper which caused the keeper to come out of goal to challenge. Lewis then crossed the ball far post to Creamer who ran onto it and finished for a 2-0 lead.
Highline answered a minute later with a goal by the Thunderbirds leading scorer, Kelsey Lusebrink to make it a 2-1 half-time score.
Rachel Hemphill opened the second-half scoring in the 58th minute when Hayley Koch got challenged by the keeper she passed cross goal to Hemphill who tapped it in to make it 3-1 Cougs.
Highline's Lusebrink tried to keep the game close when she scored from a penalty kick in the 65th, but Koch and Creamer hooked up in the 68th minute for a Koch score to make it 4-2.
Highline again had some hope for a comeback when they got a break in the 85th minute on a Clackamas 'own goal' mistake, but the Cougars responded a minute later when Katherine Gaulke lofted a pass to Creamer who scored from six yards for the game's final score.
Creamer's hatrick was her second of the season. Former Cougar Hannah Nash set the school record for hatricks in a season when she notched five last season.
October 12, 2007
Bellevue Wash. - The Cougars wasted little time establishing a lead over the 3-8 Bulldogs when Hayley Koch crossed in a ball that Kelly Lewis punched in for the opening score in the 7th minute.
Christie Richards, Clackamas' corner kick specialist, bent a corner kick into the Bulldogs' goal in the 14th minute to put the Cougs up 2-0.
In the 29th, McKenzie Creamer passed the ball upfield to Koch who put a touch on to beat the challenging keeper. The touch was a tad too much as the ball nearly went out of play, so Koch passed back to Patti Degerness who buried it from six yards out for a 3-0 Cougar lead.
Defender Katherine Matsen tallied her first assist of the season when she cleared the ball over the Bellevue back line. Lewis ran on to it and chipped a shot between the keeper's outstretched hands and the crossbar in the 36th minute to give the Cougars a 4-0 half-time advantage.
Creamer erased a personal two-game scoring drought in the 52 minute when Rachel Hemphill's attempt to take a 50/50 ball from the goalie from 18 yards out reflected to Creamer who drove the ball into the net for the Cougs' fifth score.
Matsen tallied another assist in the 53rd minute when she passed a ball into the box to Hemphill who beat a defender and put a left-footed shot far post for a 6-0 lead.
The final score came in the 72 minute. Lewis crossed a ball but it went pass the far post. Hemphill ran on to it and laid it off to Koch who shot a beauty from about 30 yards out that dropped just below the cross bar and over the keeper's hands.
Georgie Christensen and the Cougar defense tallied their 9th shutout of the season.
October 06, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The Lady Cougars once again dominated the contest on both ends of the field, but fell short in translating ball control into goals. The Cougs out-shot the Yaks 12-0 in the first half and 16-3 in the second.
Sophomore McKenzie Creamer helped get the scoring going in the 22nd minute when she played a ball inside to freshman Hayley Koch who put a touch on the ball before powering it into the corner for a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars tallied the final score when freshman Kelly Lewis crossed a ball that sophomore Rachel Hemphill drove past the keeper from twelve yards out in the 86th minute.
Once again, 2006 all-star keeper Georgie Christensen was hardly challenged as she and her Cougar teammates recorded the eighth shut-out of the season.
"We struggled a bit keeping possession and playing our game," commented Head Coach Tracy Nelson. "I'm happy we got the win and the shutout after the tough game against Lane [yesterday]"
The Cougars top the Southern Region standings at 11-0-1. With 34 points, they lead second place Lane (8-3-1) by 9 points with only six league matches remaining.
October 05, 2007
Eugene, Ore. - The second place Lane Titans (7-3-1, 8-4-1) were looking to gain ground on the Southern Region leading Cougars (10-0-1, 10-2-1). The Cougars were leading the region by nine points entering the match and after a one-all tie they retain the margin.
Lane took the lead in the 70th minute on a goal by Kori Wilgus. Clackamas was able to answer with a corner kick by Christie Richards that deflected into the Titan goal off a Lane defender in the 77th minute.
The Cougars dominated the Titans all match long, out-shooting Lane 17-2, but couldn't finish on some good looks to the goal.
September 29, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The second-ranked Cougars (10-0, 10-2) took down the Western Region's Olympic Rangers (0-9, 0-9) on Saturday by a wide seven goal margin.
Hayley Koch opened the scoring in the 8th minute when she launched a shot across goal that ricocheted off the far post to put the Cougs up 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 until the 35th minute when Christie Richards crossed a ball from outside left to the far post. The Ranger keeper came out to defend, but Kelly Lewis connected and shot the ball over the keeper's outstretched hands for a 2-0 half time lead.
Richards tallied her team leading 8th assist of the season when she played a ball over the defense which Rachel Hemphill ran onto and shot far post to make it a 3-0 Cougar lead in the 52nd minute.
A few minutes later, Miriam Coto passed a ball to Koch who beat a defender for a great look at the goal. The Ranger goalie dove for the ball, but Koch slipped it by her for her second goal of the game.
In the 69th minute, McKenzie Creamer played a ball upfield from the middle. Koch took a touch inside and sent the ball in the back of the net to complete her hatrick. The hatrick was the third of the season by the Cougars with Creamer and Lewis previously recording three-goal performances earlier in the season.
In the 79th minute, the Ranger keeper attempted to scoop up a ball, but Lewis challenged and touched the ball by her for the Cougars' sixth goal.
The final goal came in the 82nd minute when Koch flicked a ball upfield behind the defensive line. Creamer ran onto it and was one-on-one with the Ranger keeper. Creamer launched a gem on the ground that the keeper dove for but was unable to stop as the ball rolled into the back of the net for a 7-0 Cougar win.
Georgie Christensen recorded her NWAACC leading seventh save of the season. Lewis and Koch are now tied for fourth in NWAACC goal totals with thirteen apiece. Richards is tied for second in league assists leaders.
Next Up - The NWAACC's second-ranked Cougars (10-0, 10-2) travel to Lane to take on the fourth-ranked Titans (6-3, 7-4) on Friday, October 5th at 4pm. The Cougars previously defeated the Titans 2-1 at home on September 21.

Oregon City, Ore. -
The Lakers have improved since the first meeting of the two squads on September 05, but so have the Cougars.
The contest was a stalemate until the 20th minute when Hayley Koch put the Cougars up 1-0 off an assist by Kelly Lewis.
Nearly an hour passedbefore Patti Degerness stuck in a goal off a Christie Richards' corner kick in the 77th minute to provide the final goal of the match.
The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate however. The Cougars missed on several good scoring opportunities throughout the contest. The Lakers goalie made ten saves on 28 shots on goal, while Georgie Christensen made a single save on four shots on goal. It was Christensen's sixth shutout of the season.
"I'm happy with the result and getting the shutout," commented Head Coach Tracy Nelson. "I didn't feel we were focused and sharp the first half of the game."
"We need to finish our chances in front of the goal," added Nelson.

Vancouver, Wash. - The second-ranked Cougars (8-0-0, 8-2-0) were tested again against a physical & talented Clark (6-1-1, 6-2-1) squad that came into the contest undefeated in region play.
McKenzie Creamer got the offense going in the 5th minute when she threaded a pass threw defenders that Kelly Lewis took a long touch on before burying it in on the far post from seventeen yards out.
The Penguins had a penalty kick opportunity in the 14th, but Georgie Christensen made a terrific save to keep Clark scoreless.
In the 41st minute, Lewis flicked a pass toward midfield that Patti Degerness got on for a clear shot on goal. Degerness faked the goalie towards near post then chipped the shot past the keeper far post to make it a 2-0 half-time lead for the Cougs.
Hayley Koch got on the scoreboard in the 83rd minute via a Degerness pass. Koch got on the ball, dribbled pass a couple of defenders and shot far post to make it 3-0.
Miriam Coto notched her sixth assist of the season in the 88th minute when she beat a defender at midfield then passed the ball upfield to Lewis who drilled it far post for the final score.
The defense was stifling and aided Christensen in recording her NWAACC leading fifth save of the season.
"Overall, I was very pleased with the performance of the team today. We came out ready to play, " remarked Head Coach Tracy Nelson
"I thought our back line did a fantastic job shutting down their forwards. Georgie came up with a huge save that really got our confidence going. That save changed the game in our favor."
"I thought Kelly Lewis had a phenomenal game as well as McKenzie and Hayley. They caused havoc for Clark the whole game."
"Our midfield did a great job of winning 50/50 balls and keeping the ball better for us. Miriam, once again, was very solid in the midfield with her distribution."
Next Up - The NWAACC's second-ranked Cougars (8-0, 8-2) host the Southwestern Oregon Lakers (4-4, 6-4) on Friday, Sept 28 at 12pm. The contest will be played at Oregon City H.S. Pioneer Stadium [map]. The Cougars previously defeated the Lakers 2-0 in Coos Bay on September 5th.
September 21, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - It was high stakes in Oregon City as Southern Region powerhouses Lane Titans (4-1-0, 5-1-0) matched up with the Cougars (6-0-0, 6-2-0). The Titans are the 4th-ranked team in the NWAACC and were looking to drop the Cougars who are currently 2nd-ranked among the 20 league squads.
Lane suffered a devastating setback early-on when a corner kick shot by the Cougars deflected off a Titan defender into the goal resulting in a 1-0 Clackamas lead in the 1st minute. The two squads battled hard until Hayley Koch, who was playing in a rare defender-role for the match, scored in the 25th minute to put the Cougs up 2-0, which provided the half-time score.
The Cougars offense was very effective in the first half, but the second half showed a more evenly contested match by both teams. The Cougar offense wasn't as dominate as they were in the first half, but the defense held tight until the 70th minute when one of the NWAACC's premiere scorers, sophomore Kori Wilgus, put the Titans on the scoreboard to make it 2-1 Clackamas. The Titans continued to apply pressure, but the Cougars held on for the win.
The defense did a stellar job in holding Wilgus, the NWAACC's second leading goal scorer to just a single goal. Clackamas all-star keeper Georgie Christensen saved seven shots vs. Lane's keeper with ten.
"Today was a hard fought game," stated Head Coach Tracy Nelson. "Lane came ready to play and I felt we did a good job matching that intensity. I was happy how the girls fought and scrapped to hold onto the win. We could have done a better job possessing the ball, but it was hard with the pressure Lane put on us"
September 18, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The Lower Columbia Red Devil defense put up a fight, but the Cougars really had too much offensive fire power in a 9-0 score that could have easily been a 16-0 result.
McKenzie Creamer opened the scoring in the 2nd minute from 18 yards out when Kelly Lewis' goal line cross reflected off a Red Devil defender which Creamer punched in for a 1-0 lead. Lewis and Creamer again hooked up in the 8th minute this time Lewis finished the shot.
A minute later, defender Christie Richards, Clackamas' corner kick specialist, fired in a corner which Lewis was able to get a solid head shot for the Cougars third goal of the match.
Midfielder Miriam Coto threaded a pass upfield that Creamer ran on to in the 24th minute. Creamer picked up the ball on the left side then slotted it far post for a 4-0 Cougar advantage.
Hayley Koch collected a goal when Lewis fired a pass down field in the 26th minute. Koch took the pass, confronted a defender then spun around and chipped the ball over the keeper's reach for a 5-0 lead.
Creamer performed some fine offensive maneuvering through the Red Devil defense in the 42nd minute before crossing a perfect pass to Patti Degerness who finished the shot from six yards out for a 6-0 half-time lead.
Defender Katherine Matsen got things going in the second when she lofted a beautiful shot from thirty yards out that cleared the keeper's reach in the 55th minute.
The Cougs again scored from a Richards' corner kick opportunity when Liz Petersen chipped a shot from 17 yards out off a Coto shot that reflected off a defender. Petersen's shot sailed just past the keeper's reach to make it 8-0 Cougars.
Degerness collected her first assist of the season when she crossed a pass to Lewis who went one on one with the goalie for the final score of the match.
The Cougars out-shot the Red Devils 37-1 in the match. With the offensive domination demonstrated by the Cougs, Georgie Christensen and the Cougar defense were extremely hard to penetrate on the day. Christensen recorded her NWAACC leading 4th shutout of the season.
September 15, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The Tacoma Titans (2-2-0, 2-2-0) came in as the West Region's second place team and a potentially tough opponent for the Cougs (4-0-0, 4-2-0).
The match was a stalemate until the closing seconds of the first half when Hayley Koch drove in a ball from 25 yards out that McKenzie Creamer added a touch and Kelly Lewis drilled-in to give the Cougars a 1-0 half-time advantage.
Creamer added to the scoreboard when Rachel Hemphill delivered a spot-on throw-in that Creamer was able to slide pass the Titan keeper.
Sophomore midfielder Miriam Coto, who was brilliant the entire game, nailed a perfect pass to Koch, who ran on the ball and scored again in the 64th minute to put the Cougs up 3-0.
Liz Petersen accounted for the final Clackamas score when Creamer took a free kick in the 76th minute that Petersen connected with to provide the final score of 4-0.
"We played extremely well", stated Head Coach Tracy Nelson. "We dominated the game against a good squad and played strong on both sides of the field. Our offense is working well together and the defensive line is holding tight; Caitlin [Mandeville], Tarra [McCarthy] & Christie [Richards] are forming a tight defensive nucleus - and Georgie [Christensen] made a 'highlight reel' save today!"
September 14, 2007
Oregon City, Ore. - The Cougars (4-0, 4-2) played with more passion and aggression against the Western Region leaders Highline Thunderbirds (2-1-1,
2-1-1).
Hayley Koch opened the scoring in the 10th minute when she beat a defender and launched a shot that ricocheted off the left post to make it 1-0.
The Thunderbirds suffered a mishap in the 23rd minute when Christie Richards' corner kick was inadvertently knocked-in by a Highline defender.
Highline got on the board in the 34th minute when she drove a goal past Georgie Christensen to make it 2-1.
Koch got the Cougs back on the board in the opening minutes of the second half when Richards hit a cross that Koch worked past two defenders for Clackamas' 3rd goal.
Richards again made good use of a corner kick opportunity when she provided Alle Petty a great look at the goal from 17yards out to make it a 4-1 victory in the 51st minute.
"We had a good performance overall against a good team today," said Head Coach Tracy Nelson. "We did much better at going after 50-50 balls and did well defensively. Georgie had some great saves in goal. Highline is a solid squad and to score four on them was an accomplishment."
