Oregon City - The Cougars got the bad news at home, then heard the good news from Albany.
After dropping a pair of games to third-ranked Mt Hood at home 10-2 & 17-4, Clackamas' hopes of making a trip to the NWAACC dance laid in the hands of the Linn-Benton Roadrunners [box score 1 | box score 2].
LBCC hosted Lane and narrowly lost the first game against the Titans 7-5, but came back in game two to win 5-3.
The Roadrunner win gave the Cougars all they needed to advance to next week's NWAACC Championship Tournament in Longview, WA hosted by Lower Columbia College.
It is the first time since 1996 that the Cougars have made the 'elite eight'.
Last season, Clackamas, a rising force in the Southern Region, just missed making the playoffs when they fell just a half game out of second place in the region.
Complete coverage of the Championship Tournament will be available on the NWAACC site. Coverage will include Internet television and radio broadcasts from Longview stations [championship site].

Albany, OR - Clackamas reeled off another sweep Tuesday as they continue to plow through the remainder of the schedule in a quest to make their first post-season berth since 1996.
The Cougars got started early in game one when sophomore A.J Christensen singled to score freshman Joe Bray in the first for a 1-0 lead.
Linn-Benton answered with two runs in the third and another in the fifth to take control 3-1.
Clackamas exploded in the sixth for five straight singles from Brenden Landwehr, Isaiah Ferrer, Giuseppe Baffaro, Kyle Elkins and Rayce Belmont to recapture the lead on three runs making it 4-3 Cougars.
David Greenstein and Christensen scored the game's final runs in the seventh on a single by Landwehr and a squeeze bunt by Baffaro in a 6-3 Cougar win.
Jake Boyd went 4 1/3 innings as the starter and Taylor Hill closed the door in a 1-hit, 6K performance in relief.
Linn-Benton drew first blood in the first inning of game two, but the Cougars tied it 1-1 in the fifth and tagged Roadrunner pitcher Chad Hanson for three more in the seventh in a 4-1 Cougar win.
Clackamas got great offensive production from David Greenstein and Christensen who both collected three hits. Greenstein hit for a single, double and triple while Christensen had a OBP of 1.000 on two singles, a double and a walk. Johnny Wade, Landwehr and Baffaro also had multiple hits.
Cody Ching held off the Linn-Benton bats for three innings and Hill closed it out on three hits and three strikeouts in four innings for the win.
Third place Lane (14-14) split in Coos Bay with SW Oregon giving the Cougars (16-14) the inside track on a post season playoff berth.
A Clackamas win or a Lane loss on Thursday will send the Cougars to the 2009 NWAACC Championship Tournament. Two wins by Lane and two losses by Clackamas will even the two clubs' region records, forcing a tie-breaker game on May 16.
Clackamas takes on third-ranked Mt Hood at home in a twin bill on Thursday, May 14th while Lane will play Linn-Benton in Albany. Both double headers are scheduled for a 1pm start.

Salem, OR - The Cougars kept their playoff hopes alive with a rain delayed sweep of the Chemeketa Storm Thursday afternoon.
Clackamas edged Chemeketa on Saturday 2-1 before the rain delayed the start of game two for another five days.
Clackamas took control in the second inning off freshman Johnny Wade's single that drove home freshman Rayce Belmont. Chemeketa evened it up in the bottom of the inning and it remained a tie until sophomore A.J. Christensen singled to score Wade in the seventh for the game winning run.
Freshman right-hander Casey Albright picked up the win with a save by sophomore Taylor Hill.
Clackamas and Chemeketa both enjoyed plenty of offense in Thursday's series continuation, but the Cougar batters crossed home plate over twice as many times for a 7-2 win.
On the mound, Clackamas was led by freshman Jake Boyd who collected the win. Hill once again gave the Cougars what they needed from the bull pen to earn his fifth save on the season.
Sophomore David Greenstein went 4-4 at the plate with a run, a walk and accounted for 4 RBIs. Christensen, Brenden Landwehr and Isaiah Ferrer hit for .500 on the day, each tallying a pair of hits.
Second place Lane lead Clackamas by a half game with three double headers remaining for each club. Both teams will face off in a very pivotal series Saturday in Eugene on Saturday, April 9th at 1pm.
After Saturday's heads-up action, Clackamas' remaining double headers are at Linn-Benton and at home against third-ranked Mt. Hood. Lane will have double headers at Southwestern Oregon and at Linn-Benton.

Oregon City, Ore. - The Cougars dropped an agonizing pair of one-run losses to the Southwestern Oregon Lakers Thursday.
The Lakers scored four runs in the fifth inning of game one which was all they needed as the Cougars could only manage to put three on the board. Freshman centerfielder Johnny Wade assisted on all three Clackamas runs as he went 2-4 at the plate.
Clackamas and Southwestern both lit up the board with a pair of runs in the third inning of game two and battled the rest of the way to a 2-2 tie after a regulation 7-innings in game two. The clubs combined for another five runs in an exciting eighth inning, but the Lakers came out on top with a three-run smash by Jason Graves.
Wade again wielded the hot stick for the Cougars, going 3-4 with two RBIs.
Clackamas is coming a seven game skid, its worst streak of the season, but despite this, the Cougars are still in a position to make the playoffs. They, along with Chemeketa, are two games behind Lane (12-10) for second place in the South [standings].
To make the playoffs, the Cougars will have to do it the hard way - on the road - six of their last eight games are on their opponents' field.
Clackamas will next take on Chemeketa in Salem on Saturday, May 2nd for a doubleheader. Game one is set for a 1pm start. [schedule]

Coach Robinson's outlook: We graduated 15 players from a club that finish the 2008 campaign with a 30-17 record. We will be young and inexperienced, but we had a strong recruiting year.
Pitching was the high priority and we brought in some great arms: Three of the top hurlers from the Mt. Hood conference, three top players from the state champion Newport High School squad and the 4A Player of the year. The arms combined with a trio of talented catchers show keep the opposing bats at bay.
Ten of our recruits participated in all-star series this summer, so we feel like we have a talented group to take the field in '09. The team possess good speed, athletism and a bit more power than the past.
We are very excited about the promise of this recruiting class. How well we do early on will depend on how fast the new guys adjust to wood bat baseball and the level of play in the college game.
We had a great fall, finishing scrimmages with a 7-1 record. Decent weather allowed for plenty of talent evaluation and the club has progressed well throughout winter training. Come see us play, we will be a good club.
