ARTIST STATEMENT

My current work is an examination of health and disease and their relationship to the body. The forms are based on apothecary jars, which traditionally contained herbs and remedies and alchemical elixirs to heal the sick and diseased. Some of the images are derived from the visual language of alchemists who attempted to distill elixirs to heal themselves and the world. Other imagery is based on political figures that spread disease, religious healers and my own struggle with diabetes.
