Disability Resource Center Services

The Disability Resource Center provides a variety of accommodations to enable students to utilize all the resources the college offers to promote independence and success. Some of these resources are:

Counseling and advising

Notetaking

  • NCR (carbonless) paper allows students to utilize volunteer notetakers in classes. This paper is free and is available through the DRC.
  • Microcassette recorders
  • Students may copy classmates' lecture notes at no charge on the DRC's photocopy machine.

Writing/Reading Support
Students with visual disabilities are urged to use established taping services available within the community (VBS, RFB, Oregon State Library). The DRC provides digital recordings of textbooks and course materials. Arrangements must be made in advance of each term for this service.

Test taking support
Extended time for tests, distraction free environments for test taking, and modified test formats can all be arranged with the DRC. The Accommodation Specialist can assist the student in working out the arrangements. Arrangements must be made in advance of the testing day.

Adaptive equipment
Specialized adaptive equipment is available for use by students with disabilities. These items include:

  • Personal magnifiers
  • Telecommunication devices for the deaf
  • Perkins Brailler
  • Talking calculator
  • Personal FM listening devices
  • Adaptive computer peripherals
  • Electronic print enlarger
  • Speech recognition software
  • Specialized classroom furniture

Specialized Coursework

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a non - credit program offered by the college to any student who needs individualized and intensive basic skill instruction. ABE classes are free. Contact the DRC for more information.
  • Personal Development (for Students With Disabilities) covers a wide variety of empowerment skills for college and for life. Topics can include assertiveness, motivation, stress reduction, time management, self confidence, and basic study skills (up to 6 transferable credit hours). Contact the DRC for more information.

Sign language and oral interpreting
Interpreting services are available to Deaf or Hard or Hearing Students. Sign language specialists interpret classroom-related activities to meet student's specific communication needs.

Tutorial Assistance
CCC offers a range of tutorial options and students are encouraged to use these college wide services.

ADA Workstations

Adaptive technology/training is available in the DRC CC-142.  ADA workstations are available in various locations on campus.  Please see the DRC for a map of locations.
