Disabiltiy Resource Center
Introduction to the Disability Resource CenterOur MissionThe Disability Resource Center provides services in support of the mission of Clackamas Community College. These services are designed to support student success by creating a welcoming, inclusive and accessible environment at Clackamas Community College.
Clackamas Community College Involved in National ProjectClackamas Community College is an active participant in Project ShIFT (Shaping Inclusion through Foundational Transformation), a 3-year US Department of Education grant dedicated to creating institutional change that improves the quality of higher education for disabled students. The goal of the Project is to develop usable, inclusive, and sustainable campus environments. Betsy Pacheco, DRC Coordinator, is one of only 26 disability service professionals from colleges and universities across the nation selected to participate in this progressive project. Last summer, she attended the Project’s first Summer Institute in Denver. During the week-long training, participants discussed research from Disability Studies and issues of social justice. They then considered how these concepts could be applied to their office practices to facilitate a change in the campus perception of disability. This year, Betsy Pacheco invited Stefan Baratto a Math Faculty member at Clackamas Community College to join her in the Project's second summer Institute. Project participants and their faculty colleagues will partner in continuing discussions of how new perspectives of disability can inform both service delivery and curriculum design. For more information, visit the Project ShIFT website at http://www.lanecc.edu/disability/shiftgrant.htm or contact Principal investigator, Nancy Hart, Associate Dean for Student Affairs for Disability Resources at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon.
